Heavy rainfall at Sunrise Golf and Country Club forced round one of the Wistron Ladies Open to be suspended, with the course and driving range in an unplayable condition. Round one will resume tomorrow (Saturday) at 6:40am (local time).
The afternoon wave of tee times, who had yet to start their opening round, have been adjusted to start at 8:15am tomorrow.
On Friday, the first group teed off at 6:40am in Taoyuan, before a flooded course caused no play after 2:30pm.
The tournament was due to start on Thursday 23rd September, but after a course inspection on Wednesday, the Ladies European Tour (LET) and TLPGA confirmed it had been reduced to 54 holes. Taking into account further heavy rainfall, the 2025 edition has now been reduced to a 36-hole tournament (no cut).
Round two will be played on Sunday, in score order with a two-tee start.
Ireland’s Lauren Walsh and Thailand’s Kornkamol Sukaree are currently tied at the top on four-under par, with the pair still having six holes left to play of round one.
Walsh, who started the day on the 10th tee, shined early on with back-to-back birdies on the 12th and 13th. A further birdie on the 16th meant she was three-under par through her first seven holes. Despite dropping a shot on the 17th, she pulled it back with another two birdies before play was then suspended.
One shot behind Walsh and Sukaree is Finland’s Noora Komulainen in solo third place. Despite the tough conditions, she was able to card a birdie and an eagle in her first eight holes.
A total of 20 groups were still to go out to kick off their opening round including defending champion Chiara Tamburlini. The Swiss will kick off her title defence tomorrow.
The tournament will still be an official counting event for the 2025 season. Order of Merit leader Shannon Tan will aim to strengthen her position this weekend, with England’s Mimi Rhodes just 239.46 points behind and only two tournaments left in the season.
