RESURGENT GRINBERG FLYING THE FLAG FOR BRAZIL AT LET Q-SCHOOL

There are no fewer than 40 nationalities represented at Lalla Aicha Q-School this week including Brazil as Lauren Grinberg looks to become her nation’s next Ladies European Tour (LET) star.

Born and raised in São Paulo, Grinberg played collegiate golf at Barry University before she was forced to give up the sport for two years due to a motorcycle accident. Having undergone several surgeries, the resilient Brazilian returned to action last year before signing up to Lalla Aicha Q-School in her quest to play professional golf in Europe.

Grinberg fired rounds of 72-75-70 at the Pre Qualifier: PalmGolf Ourika to make it safely through to next week’s Final Stage in Morocco.

On her golfing journey, Grinberg said: “I was born and grew up in Brazil. I went to college, I went to Barry University in Miami between 2018 and 2021. But then because of COVID, I had to go back home. After that I had an accident, I had to go through three surgeries and I quit for two years and only started playing again last year. That’s when I decided I wanted to turn professional.

“I had an electric motorcycle accident. I was actually going to play golf and I fell off a motorcycle and broke my ankle. It was really bad so I had to have several surgeries. It took me about a year and a half to recover. But now I’m 100% and ready to go.”

The LET has not had a Brazilian on its circuit since Luiza Altmann took to the fairways between 2018-2022. Prior to that, Olympians Miriam Nagl and Victoria Lovelady flew the flag for Brazil with 25-year-old Grinberg now seeking to follow in their footsteps.

The Brazilian said: “I heard so many good things about the Ladies European Tour because when I decided to turn pro I talked to a lot of friends and they all told me how welcoming the LET and how it’s such a good experience playing around Europe. So that was my first option.

“There’s a player from Brazil called Alexandre Rocha, he played on the DP World Tour for a couple of years. He was the one who told me all about playing in Europe, as well as Victoria Lovelady, I know her from back home. She also told me a lot of good things about this Tour.”

Grinberg tees up at this week’s Final Qualifier in Marrakech alongside 154 other players. The top-20 and ties following the conclusion of the five day competition will earn Category 12 status for 2026.

On the task at hand, the 25-year-old said: “I was supposed to play Q-School last year, but I didn’t feel like my golf was in the shape I wanted it to be in. But this year I’ve felt better and I feel like this is my year, so let’s see.

“I had a pretty good first week. Of course I was a little nervous on the first tee, but I was confident with my game. I have my coach as my caddie so that’s really good for me. My game is also in good shape.

“Honestly, I’ll just try to reset the mind and play good golf. I know if I play my game I can make it. But I don’t want to think about that too much, I just want to go out there and have fun, just like I did last week [at Pre-Q].”

Final Qualifying for Lalla Aicha Q-School takes place between 16-20 December at Al Maaden Marrakech and Royal Golf Marrakech.
