Why is golf in Scotland so different?
Angela Stanford: “The ground is different and you have so many options. I’ve enjoyed it and I’ve grown into that. I can’t say that I’ve always loved it, but if you have an imagination, you love playing golf here.”
Caroline Masson: “Finally we can bring some creativity to the game and not hit the same robot shot every time. It’s a little bit different. The course looks tough. Yesterday there wasn’t much wind, but looks different — the greens are pretty huge and undulating and especially with the wind coming up: putting will be huge.”
Tiffany Joh: “I’m a big fan of putting it everywhere. I think the key to links golf is stay out of the bunkers. You can kind of spray it everywhere you want as long as you stay out of the fescue and bunkers. Last year at this tournament, I had one of the best rounds of my career and I didn’t even think I hit it that well, I just kept it in play: a smooth, consistent 62 and an 80!”
Bronte Law: “I really enjoy playing links golf and I was a member of two links courses growing up as a child. The imagination aspect of the game: I always really enjoyed that. Last week there were a couple of shots that growing up on a links helped me with. It’s a lot more fun, but a links can be challenging and very frustrating. You never really know what you’re going to get when you go out on the course and I think that’s a great thing about the game.
“The course looks good and it’s a lot more green than normal. I’ve never seen a links course look so green. I think it will be a good test and I think that if the wind gets up and the weather is like it’s supposed to be, it will be pretty brutal.”
