Reid granted life membership of Albatross Golf Resort

Albatross Golf Resort cemented its place as the leading golf resort in the Czech Republic with a successful second staging of the Raiffeisenbank Prague Golf Masters at the weekend.

The tournament was won by England’s Melissa Reid in an emotional finale to her first event back after she lost her mother in a tragic road accident four weeks ago.

Following her triumph Reid was granted lifetime membership of Albatross in recognition of her achievement.

Reid joined many of her Ladies’ European Tour (LET) colleagues in praising both the standard and conditioning of Albatross which was recently named the number one ranked golf course in the Czech Republic by Golf Digest in America.

“I’m just over the moon I’ve won,” said Reid. “I think the course is absolutely fantastic. I think it’s in superb condition and it’s going to be one of my favourite courses of the year now.”

Albatross, which is located 30 minutes’ drive from the centre of Prague, is in only its third year of operation and has already matured into an excellent test of golf offering wonderful views of the Cesky Kras Nature Reserve.

The 250,000 Euro Raiffeisenbank Prague Golf Masters attracted a strong LET field including multiple tour winners Trish Johnson, Laura Davies, Gwladys Nocera, Lee-Anne Pace and Becky Brewerton as well as two-time winner this season Carly Booth and Reid herself.

Many of the other players joined Reid at the 17th green to walk down the last hole with her as she clinched a one-shot victory over Diana Luna from Italy.

Andy Lott of the Ladies’ European Tour, said: “Albatross Golf Resort is one of the best golf courses in Europe. The practice facilities and amenities for the players are tremendous, not to mention the quality of the course. Melissa Reid said that she fell in love with it the first time she played it on the Friday of the tournament. The tees are like fairways; the fairways are like surrounds and the greens are superb. The set-up is fantastic and the greens staff, under the leadership of Course Manager Jiri Dvorak, should be commended for their work in getting the course into immaculate condition for the event.”

Mr Jiri Simane, the owner of Albatross, added: “We are delighted to have worked with the LET on hosting such a successful tournament. It was very emotional for Melissa and everyone here to see her win so soon after the tragic loss of her mother. I think everyone will remember this event at Albatross for a long time to come. We look forward to working with the LET to build on this event and continue to enhance the Czech Republic’s reputation as a destination for championship golf.”
