Reasons to vote for Team Europe in “Team of the Year” Awards

 

Last Sunday 10th November our European Solheim Cup Team appeared in the 2013 Sunday Times and Sky Sports Sportswomen of the Year Awards shortlist as one of the candidates to become the Team of the Year. The European Solheim Cup Team will be battling with other candidates such as the England cricket team, England netball team and Great Britain’s team pursuit cycling squad.

In order to have the chance to win, we need as many votes as possible by midnight 25th November. Here are our Top 5 reasons to vote for Team Europe!

Reason #1 – WE MADE HISTORY

This was the first time in history that the Europeans beat the Americans on US soil.

Reason #2- A VICTORY FULL OF RECORDS

5-0 The 24-year-old Swede, Caroline Hedwall, became the first player to win five out five matches– and by winning the 14th point for Europe she sealed the historic first win in the US. 

18-10 The final result was 18-10: the biggest ever margin of victory.

17 year old  Charley Hull from England, was the youngest ever Solheim Cup player. She beat Creamer, world No. 11, by 5 and 4 in her singles match

Reason #3- EUROPE BEAT THE AMERICANS TWO TIMES IN A ROW

After 3 consecutive victorious editions for the US Team  since 2005, this was the second time Europe have won the Cup, following their epic victory in Killeen Castle in 2011.

Reason #4 – THRILLING SPORT

The quality of golf showed by our players during the event and the number of outstanding shots produced under extreme pressure , including a hole in one, was sensational.

The Solheim Cup has been a sport event followed by millions of people from all over the world live on TV and also through livestreaming. The excitement and the passion engaged many fans and highligthed once again, The Solheim Cup, as a premier sporting event

On the evening of Thursday, December 5, for the first time, the Awards will be broadcast live by Sky. They are supported by the Sport and Recreation Alliance, UK Sport, Sport England and the Women’s Sport and Fitness Foundation.
