  • From November 23-26, the historic Marbella course will host the tournament that will close the Ladies European Tour season and will bring together the best players on Tour

The Real Club de Golf Las Brisas, located in the coastal town of Marbella, will host the Andalucía Costa del Sol Open de España 2023. A tournament that will close the Ladies European Tour (LET) season and will decide the winner of the Race to Costa del Sol.

The historic course was designed by Robert Trent Jones Sr. in 1968 and updated by Kyle Phillips in 2015. Paul Muñoz, Real Club de Golf Las Brisas general manager, said: “It will resume a club record that had been on stand-by for the last 20 years.

“We convinced our members that we had to give some renewal to the club’s DNA, whose identity is the celebration of major events, and the Andalucía Costa del Sol Open de España fits perfectly with what we were looking for.”

The Real Club de Golf Las Brisas has been the setting for two World Cups (1973 and 1989) and two Spanish Opens (1983 and 1987), and was attended by great players such as Jack Nicklaus, Gary Player, Seve Ballesteros, José María Olazábal, Nick Faldo and José María Cañizares.

Therefore, Muñoz continued: “This tournament will once again place Real Club de Golf Las Brisas on the golf map. We want to renew that feeling that we had before at the club. To do it with a women’s event is a plus, not only because it is on the rise, but because it will give the club a new positioning and will put us on the map in a very interesting way.”

As for the course, which will host the best players on the Ladies European Tour, it will have several holes that can be decisive, especially since its redesign.

“The 11th hole will be the most emblematic and special one, as it was here where great moments were experienced in the tournaments held in the 70s and 80s,” he explained. “The key to success against Real Club de Golf Las Brisas will be trying to be very regular. I think the player who focuses on taking fairways will have a good chance of winning.”

The design of Real Club de Golf Las Brisas is complemented by the landscaping created by the Englishman Gerald Huggan. It is as if it were a botanical garden, plants and trees from all continents such as the Cape Chestnut and Thorny Acacias, the Indian Laurel and Mysore Ficus from Asia, the Chorisia speciosa from America, the Green Ash from Mexico and the Whistling Pine from Australia, as well as numerous palms and Mediterranean trees, fill the course with imagination and color.
