Bronte Law makes big move

England’s Bronte Law climbed the leader board with a five-under-par 66 on moving day at the Evian Championship.

The Rolex Ranking No.23 made six birdies and a solitary bogey playing in warm and pleasant conditions at Evian Resort Golf Club.

She had a chip for eagle from the collar on the back of the 18th green and almost holed the shot, tapping in for a 54 hole total of six-under-par in the fourth major championship of 2019.

The Pure Silk Championship presented by Williamsburg winner in May explained: “I’m pretty comfortable with my wedges around the greens and can usually create a lot of different kinds of shots. My first thought was to see how the grass was and if I can cut across it a little bit. I then get some grab when it lands on the green and then let it release. I just think about a couple of inches behind the ball, because the rest of the grass doesn’t come into play. I’m really trying not to make contact with any of the grass behind it and catch it right there. A little bit back in the stance and open up the club face.

“I knew I had to shoot a decent score to have any chance of running at it tomorrow. I told my caddie, we need to get better each day, after the first day, and so far we’ve done that so I’m hoping to do that again tomorrow.”
