PLENTY OF AUSSIES HOPING TO SECURE LET STATUS

Kelsey Bennett

Last week’s Pre-Qualifier – Europe saw plenty of Australian interest near the top of the leaderboard with Kelsey Bennett and Kirsten Rudgeley both in the top five.

But the young duo weren’t the only two players from Down Under to impress as Amy Walsh produced a round of 67 (-4) on the final day to also climb up the standings.

And Stefanie Hall also finished in T31 meaning four Australian player advanced and secured a spot in this week’s Final Qualifier.

The last stage of the 2023 LET Q-School will see 146 players tee it up at La Manga Club on the North and South Courses.

Players will alternate which course they play for the first four rounds before there is a cut to the top 60 and ties, and the fifth round will take place on the South Course.

The quartet are joined by another three Aussies this week as Kristalle Blum, a winner on the LET Access Series in 2022, joins them in the field as does Jordan O’Brien and Gabriela Ruffels.

And it’s been an exciting time for Rudgeley and Bennett with both players making the decision to relinquish their amateur status in recent weeks.

Rudgeley, who finished T10 at the Women’s NSW Open on the LET earlier in the season, made her professional debut in her home country at the Australian Open just a couple of weeks ago.

While Bennett, who recorded two top-20 results on the LET this year, played last week’s Pre-Qualifier as an amateur but has decided to turn professional for the Final Stage at La Manga Club.

“At the start of the year coming here was just a thought to come to LET Q-School,” Bennett said. “And then once I played quite solidly all year, I had a good chat with my coach.

“Over the last few months, we said, ‘why not, go for it’ and here we are. I’ve got Australian Q-School in early January as well, so we’ll see how we go over the next week.”
