Scotland’s Pamela Pretswell is looking forward to a glorious homecoming when the 2015 Aberdeen Asset Management Ladies Scottish Open takes place at Dundonald Links on the West Coast of Scotland in North Ayrshire next week, from 24-26 July.
The event now occupies a prime spot on the Ladies European Tour calendar, sitting just one week ahead of the Women’s British Open and offers an increased prize fund of €500,000.
At seventh on the Ladies European Tour’s current order of merit, Pamela is one of the top Scots competing along with Catriona Matthew, Kylie Walker, Carly Booth, Pamela Pretswell, Vikki Laing, Sally Watson, Laura Murray and Kelsey MacDonald.
Pretswell has posted six top 15 finishes from eight tournament starts so far this year and has finished sixth three times, in New Zealand, China and Turkey.
She has been inspired by the performance of her friend Kylie Walker who won twice on the Ladies European Tour last year and said: “I think Kylie Walker kicked it off with her two wins last year and Sally Watson had an unbelievable rookie season last year. It makes you push yourself.
“This is my third year on tour. In the first year I finished 16th in the order of merit, and then last year I was 36th, I’m currently seventh this year so things are looking good.”
A win at home in the Aberdeen Asset Management Ladies Scottish Open would be top of her list. “It’s the one I would like to win if I was going to win one, so I’m going to be working hard to get ready for it. The course is brilliant, absolutely fantastic, the greens are very tricky. I think links greens with these kind of slopes are as hard as it gets. It shows up the weaknesses in your short game.”
However, as a warm up to the Ricoh Women’s British Open, the tournament has attracted one of the strongest field of competitors of the year, including world number two Lydia Ko, world number five Suzann Pettersen, No.46 Catriona Matthew and No.51 Charley Hull as well as Cheyenne Woods, Laura Davies, Melissa Reid, Gwladys Nocera, Becky Brewerton and the defending champion Trish Johnson.
The event’s unique pro-am format sees 80 amateurs and celebrities tee it up alongside 80 top female golfers and the 54-hole tournament is played over three days annually.
