Are you on the edge of your seat, eagerly awaiting the start of The 2015 Solheim Cup? With just a year to go until Team Europe attempts an historic, third consecutive victory against Team US at Golf Club St. Leon-Rot in Germany, you can be part of the celebrations. Heidelberg is buzzing with activities for visitors of all ages.
Golden Charity Shot
The charity marathon in aid of the Franz-Beckenbauer-Foundation and the German School Sports Foundation began on Monday, 15th September 2014 with the “Golden Charity Shot” from the “Old Bridge” or “Alte Brücke”, in Heidelberg.
The 2015 Solheim Cup Captains, Carin Koch and Juli Inkster, along with European Solheim Cup stars Caroline Masson, Sandra Gal and Caroline Hedwall, US star Paula Creamer and US vice-captain Pat Hurst were joined by celebrities Dietmar Hopp, Franz Beckenbauer, Steffi Graff and John Solheim in hitting golf, tennis and football shots to a floating target on the river Neckar. For each ball that hit the target, 1,000 euros was donated to charity, resulting in 37,000 euros being raised for good causes within two hours.
Charity Show Match
The sporting highlight of the “One Year to Go Event” the “Charity Show Match” will be held on Tuesday 16th September 2014. The fun starts at midday with the eight top professionals showing off their skills at the “Driving Range Charity” by hitting four different targets in order to raise money for each target hit. A team competition will be held and the eight professionals will face eight young up and coming German golfers. The professional team will consist of Carin Koch, Juli Inkster, Sandra Gal, Caroline Masson, U.S. Open Champion Martin Kaymer and Moritz Lampert. Afterwards the “Charity Show Match” will take place which includes a single and foursomes event. Great numbers of visitors are expected to attend and the number of tickets is limited to 4,000. Please be advised that tickets for the “Charity Show Match” have to be reserved beforehand.
