Olympic golf and Solheim Cup star Caroline Masson will tee up in her home tournament, the ISPS HANDA Ladies European Masters, at Golf Club Hubbelrath in Düsseldorf starting on Thursday.
The local player, who represented the club as a young professional golfer, will showcase her impressive talents and skills as part of a field of 144 world class players, competing for a prize fund of 500,000 euros.
Masson, who recently tied for 21st place in the women’s Olympic golf competition in Rio de Janeiro, is a two-time European Solheim Cup player who represented her continent at the most recent contest in Germany in 2015 and was also a key member of the first team to win in the United States at Colorado Golf Club in 2013.
Since turning professional in 2010, the 27-year-old from Gladbeck has been a consistently strong performer and earned her breakthrough win at the South African Women’s Open at Selborne Park Golf Club in 2012.
Masson has a strong record in the ISPS HANDA Ladies European Masters, which has been played at the Ladies European Tour’s headquarters at Buckinghamshire Golf Club in England for the last three years.
In 2013, she posted a season-best finish of third at the championship, where she fired a career low 63 in the first round. She tied for third in the 2014 event and then tied for fourth in 2015.
Aside from her past successes, this year Masson has achieved two top 10 finishes on the LPGA Tour, with a tie for 6th at the ANA Inspiration, which is a Major Championship and T10th at the Kingsmill Championship presented by JTBC.
Prior to turning professional, Caroline won the Ladies European Tour’s Final Qualifying School at La Manga Club in Murcia, Spain and she hopes to return to the winner’s circle at her home club this year.
