OFFICIAL DATES UNVEILED FOR 2028 SOLHEIM CUP

By LPGA

The LPGA announced today that the 2028 Solheim Cup will be held Sept. 8-10 at Valhalla Golf Club in Louisville, Ky. The 2028 Solheim Cup, the 21st playing of the international team competition, will add yet another page to the history books of a city already steeped in a great sports tradition.

“As we look to September 2028, we are so excited to work with the team at Valhalla to build an incredible Solheim Cup experience for Louisville sports fans,” said Lindsay Allen, executive director of the 2028 Solheim Cup. “This area is no stranger to incredible sporting events and we are thrilled to add the Solheim Cup to that list. We have no doubt that the Solheim Cup, the pinnacle of competition for American and European golfers, will be a can’t-miss event, so we need area sports fans to get Sept. 8-10, 2028, on their calendars. Let’s cover the Valhalla first tee in Red, White and Blue, and even some European Blue and Yellow!”

Points for the 2028 U.S. Solheim Cup Team will start accruing following the completion of the 2026 qualification period in summer 2026. At the end of the 2028 qualification period, the top seven players in the U.S. Solheim Cup Team points standings will be named to the team. They will be joined by the top two players in the Rolex Women’s World Golf Rankings not already qualified and three captain’s picks.

With the 2028 Solheim Cup, Valhalla will join The Greenbrier, Muirfield Village and Gleneagles as the only venues to host both a Solheim Cup and a Ryder Cup. This will be the first major women’s competition held at Valhalla, which has hosted numerous major men’s individual and team events in its illustrious history.

The 2028 Solheim Cup marks the LPGA Tour’s return to the commonwealth of Kentucky for the first time in more than 50 years. From 1965 to 1974, the Bluegrass Invitational was held at Hunting Creek Country Club in Prospect, just outside Louisville. The list of Bluegrass winners comprises six major winners: Donna Caponi (1970, 1973), JoAnne Carner (1971, 1974), Kathy Cornelius (1972), Carol Mann (1968), Kathy Whitworth (1965) and Mickey Wright (1966, 1967, 1969).
