Patricia Sanz makes professional debut
Patricia Sanz of Madrid, who last week contributed to Spain winning the gold medal at the Ladies Amateur Championships, made her professional debut at the 2013 Open de España, at Club de Campo Villa de Madrid.
After six events played as an amateur on the 2013 LET Access Series, Sanz is ranked second behind Mirea Prat with her best results second at the Terre Blanche Ladies Open, a tie for second at the Fourqueux Ladies Open, a tie for ninth at the Sölvesborg Ladies Open, a tie for 10th at the Kristianstad Åhus Ladies Open and a tie for 12th at the Ocho Golf Ladies Open.
She is currently poised to earn one of the top five exemptions available to play on the LET next year.
Her sister, Marta, also competed in last week’s Ladies Amateur Championships but decided to stay amateur to compete in the Open de España. There is currently a close battle between the sisters. Marta was two-over-par for the first round and just inside the projected cut mark, while Patricia was just outside at three-over-par.

Gold Putter for María Hernández
The Pamplona-player María Hernández received a very special golf club during the first round of the Open de España Femenino: a gold plated putter, presented for winning the Allianz Ladies Slovak Open in 2010, her first and only triumph on the Ladies European Tour.
Circumstances didn’t allow for the presentation of the putter over the last three years until now, but Fernando Cambronero, head of Ping Spain, thanked Maria for her work throughout her three years as a professional.

Ignacio Garrido visits the scene of his course record
Ignacio Garrido, the brother of event organiser Alicia Garrido, appeared at Club de Campo Villa de Madrid on Thursday to show his support for the Open de España Femenino and Madrid 2020 – Olympic Candidate City.
The Madrid golfer was photographed with Gwladys Nocera, current number 1 on the LET order of merit. He recalled when he shot a course record 63 (-8) in a tournament when par was 71 at Club de Campo Villa de Madrid. This equalled the score set by Severiano Ballesteros and Eduardo Romero on the same course. Cheyenne Woods, in the first round of the Open de España Femenino, shot a 64, which was also an 8 under par as the par was 72 for the ladies’ event. Great job!
