It is crunch time for several Ladies European Tour (LET) stars looking to keep their cards for 2025 at this week’s Andalucía Costa del Sol Open de España presented by Oysho – the final event of the 2024 season.
Following the conclusion of play on Sunday, the top-70 players in the Order of Merit will earn Category 4 status for 2025. One player sitting right on the cusp is Swizterland’s Elena Moosmann, a graduate from the LET Access Series (LETAS).
After a rollercoaster year, the 22-year-old sits 69th in the standings meaning she needs a solid performance in Malaga to maintain her position and keep full playing rights for 2025.
“It has been an up-and-down year,” Moosmann said, who has nine cuts one top-five finish to her name in 2025. “Not really how I wanted it to be, honestly. But you always learn from it. I had some great tournaments but also some very bad weeks. So it’s great to be here to here, to able to play in the final tournament, because at some points it looked like I might be out of it.
“I’m going to go all in to try and secure my card, because I’m right on the line. It depends how I play. But I also don’t want to get to focused on it, I want to play fun and loose. Because if you get a bit stiff, sometimes it backfires. I have a good caddie, a friend this week, so that will help to keep the mood light. She lives here so I thought definitely, for sure. It’s perfect that she offered.”
Sitting on the cusp, Moosmann has several challengers looking to break into the top-70 and retain their cards this week. Teeing up in Spain are Morocco’s Maha Haddioui (73rd), France’s Camille Chevalier (74th), Wales’ Lydia Hall (75th), Japan’s Ayako Uehara (77th), Finland’s Sanna Nuutinen (78th), Czechia’s Tereza Melecka (79th) and Austria’s Sarah Schober (80th).
Moosmann is currently 30.33 points ahead of Sweden’s Lisa Pettersson in 71st – a player who will have winner’s exemption next year after landing the 2023 Helsingborg Open.
On her preparation this week, Moosmann said: “I went to Spain a little early with my mum to practice. At home [in Switzerland] it just got a bit too foggy. So that was very nice.
“The course is in great shape. They have done a great job despite the rain. I think overall, you will need to have great tee shots. The second nine has some slopey greens but I think it’s a great course. We’ll see what it brings but I’m looking forward to the last tournament of the year. It went by so quickly.”
While the Swiss star will also be looking to take inspiration from Chiara Tamburlini, her compatriot and best friend who won this year’s Order of Merit and Rookie of the Year double.
“It’s been amazing watching Chiara,” she said. “So inspiring. It’s amazing what she did, insane. I hope she makes it to the LPGA. I know she will do well. I think she belongs there. But it’s nice to travel with her all year and see what she’s been able to accomplish. It’s amazing. I’m very happy for her.”
Moosmann gets underway at the Andalucía Costa del Sol Open de España presented by Oysho on Thursday at 11:10 playing alongside Sweden’s Sofie Bringner and England’s Ellie Givens two players who face similar situations sitting 67th and 68th respectively in the Order of Merit.
