Englishwoman Mimi Rhodes made an improbable ace on Sunday in the final round of the AIG Women’s Open at Royal Porthcawl Golf Club.
The three-time Ladies European Tour winner was playing alongside Stephanie Kyriacou on day four of the year’s fifth and final major championship, who had posted a hole-in-one of her own during Friday’s second round. First on the tee, Kyriacou had nearly dunked her tee shot on the par-3 5th hole for another ace, and the Australian’s ball was resting just a couple of inches to the left of the cup.
Hitting second, Rhodes stepped up with an 8-iron from 95 yards and knocked her tee shot directly at the pin. The ball took a few hops just short of the flag and rolled up, ultimately banking off Kyriacou’s ball and dropping into the cup for the unlikeliest hole-in-one, much to the delight of the local crowd.
Rhodes’ ace is the 12th hole-in-one to be recorded on the LPGA Tour this season and the fourth to be made in a major championship in 2025, as there were also aces made at the KPMG Women’s PGA Championship by Brianna Do and The Amundi Evian Championship by Leona Maguire.
It’s the second time that Rhodes has made an ace on the Ladies European Tour this season, as the LET rookie holed out on the par-3 7th hole at Abama Golf in Tenerife, Spain on day one of the Tenerife Women’s Open in early June.
