One year on from the “some of the best golf” she’s ever played and Marta Martin is back in Beroun and feeling confident ahead of her Tipsport Czech Ladies Open title defence.
The Spaniard had a final round to remember last time out firing a magnificent 63 (-9) to secure a four-shot victory and land her first Ladies European Tour (LET) title.
“It was some of the best golf I’ve ever played in my life,” Martin says 12 months on. “It was fun because I was playing in the final group but I was two off the lead. So I pretty much told myself to go out there and enjoy the competition and do my best. Then all of a sudden I was hitting the ball really close and making every single putt.
“I think everything clicked. When you get that low, everything flows. People often ask me what I did differently, but I didn’t really do anything different. I just stuck to my game plan and the putts rolled in. I hit some good shots which bounced closer to the hole than usual. Everything flowed.
“I finished the round, looked at the scoreboard, and I don’t know if I was more proud of winning the tournament or being able to shoot nine-under the last day of the tournament.”

The win opened several doors for Martin she qualified for The Amundi Evian Championship and AIG Women’s Open in the process.
The popular Spaniard will now be hoping to replicate her Beroun brilliance from 2024 as she defends her title in the Czech Republic.
“I’m feeling great,” Martin said. “It’s great to be back. It’s a lovely place and I love the town. I always have done since the first time I came here. I’m ready for the week and I’m ready to have some fun in the competition.
“The course is great. It’s a lovely course and Beroun is a great little town. I think we’re going to go to a different restaurant every night and really try to enjoy the town. If we get some time, we also might go into Prague and enjoy the beautiful city. The golf course is actually really, really good. The greens are rolling really well. Everything is really good.”
Martin sits 61st in the LET Order of Merit and arrives at Royal Beroun Golf Club off the back of a T32 finish in Belgium and T20 finish in Tenerife. A model of consistency on the LET, the 28-year-old is confident she can light things up in the Czech Republic once again.
“I’m very confident,” Martin said. “I know that if I do what I have to do, if I stick to my game plan, stick to my routine and it all flows, I can do it again. This week, and any other week.
“I’m still working on the same things. I think mentally, [winning] makes you more confident and shows the work you are doing is working. You know you’re on the right path, so mentally, that’s a big help.”
Martin gets her Tipsport Czech Ladies Open title defence underway on Friday at 13:58 local time playing alongside home favourite Sara Kouskova – a recent two-time winner on Tour – and Austria’s Emma Spitz.
