(DAYTONA BEACH, Fla., Sept. 14, 2005) – Meg Mallon, an LPGA veteran and a member of the winning 2005 U.S. Solheim Cup Team, is scheduled to be released from The Heart Center of Indiana in Indianapolis, Ind., today following treatment related to Supraventricular Tachycardia (SVT).
Mallon was admitted to the hospital on Sunday, Sept. 11, after experiencing a rapid heart rate following Closing Ceremonies as the U.S. Solheim Cup Team arrived for a press conference at the media center. She was taken to The Heart Center of Indiana and underwent tests to determine the cause and treatment.
Mallon experienced SVT, which is described as a rapid heart rate originating above the ventricles or lower chambers of the heart; her heart rate was at 290 beats per minute. On Tuesday, Sept. 13, her physicians performed a Radio Frequency Catheter Ablation procedure, which was successful in eliminating the circuit to the SVT.
Mallon is expected to have a full recovery, but will not compete in this week’s John Q. Hammons Hotel Classic.
Mallon’s attending physician was Dr. Richard Fogel, The Care Group at The Heart Center of Indiana. Fogel was actually in the gallery when Mallon closed out her singles match against Karen Stupples to secure The Solheim Cup for the U.S. Team.
The other two physicians involved with her care are Dr. Eric Prystowsky and Dr. David Rardon, both of The Care Group at The Heart Center of Indiana.
