Jiyai Shin |
Reigning Ricoh Women’s British Open champion Jiyai Shin will tee it up at the 2013 Volvik RACV Ladies Masters being played from 1 to 3 February at the RACV Royal Pines Resort.
The Rolex Ranked World No. 8 is a great addition to the high calibre field that has been assembled for the 24th staging of the event. The South Korean superstar joins the likes of seven-time Masters champion, Karrie Webb, three-time winner England’s Laura Davies, defending champion Christel Boeljon, World No. 7 and compatriot So Yeon Ryu and 2012 Ladies European Tour Order of Merit winner Spaniard Carlota Ciganda.
Defending ISPS Handa Women’s Australian Open champion Jessica Korda and recently turned professional American Cheyenne Woods, who is the niece of Tiger Woods, will also be ones for Shin to watch out for as well.
Shin is coming off another fantastic year on the LPGA where she posted two victories. The first came at the Kingsmill Championship when she defeated Paula Creamer in a nine-hole, two-day playoff. She then went on to win the RICOH Women’s British Open, her second major, with the tournament’s largest margin of victory (9 shots).
The diminutive Shin played 18 events, made all 18 cuts and posted eight top 10 finishes, including the two wins. She finished the year seventh on the LPGA Money List with US$1,234,597.
Shin has recorded three top 10 finishes at the Ladies Masters, including a runner-up finish to Webb in 2007.Tournament Chairman Bob Tuohy said “Jiyai’s return to the RACV Royal Pines Resort is welcomed and has boosted the high quality of field on show.”The Volvik RACV Ladies Masters is supported by Tourism and Events Queensland as part of a growing calendar of sporting, cultural and regional events throughout the State.
