MADSEN MAKES FRIDAY MOVE IN SCOTLAND

Nanna Koerstz Madsen

Nanna Koerstz Madsen fired a round of 66 (-6) on day two of the ISPS HANDA Women’s Scottish Open to move up the leaderboard.

The Danish star opened with a 68 (-4) on day one to be just two shots behind overnight leader Charlotte Laffar of England at Dundonald Links.

On Friday morning, Madsen began her round from the 10th tee and started with a birdie before adding two more on holes 13 and 14.

The Solheim Cup winner rolled in back-to-back birdies on the first and second before dropping her only shot of the day on the fourth.

However, she finished in style with back-to-back birdies on eight and nine for a round of six-under and to move into first place with a total of 10-under-par.

“I’m happy with these two days, there is still a lot of golf left to play,” said Madsen. “It was chilly this morning, and a lot more wind than yesterday. It was a little bit trickier.

“It’s fun to play this golf twice a year – not every week! It’s really fun to get creative with the shots and I enjoy it.”

This is Madsen’s 11th appearance in the Women’s Scottish Open, and she has made the cut seven times.

The Dane’s best result in the tournament was T5 in the 2020 edition, meanwhile she also finished T5 and T10 at the AIG Women’s Open held at Carnoustie (2021) and St Andrews (2024), respectively.

With back-to-back weeks playing links golf, Madsen is used to the conditions on the golf courses in the UK.

“My dad said before I got here that this must be the tournament that I played the most on because I played here as a junior as well,” she continued. “I definitely know this course very well.

“It’s really good to get here and try some of the shots, but it’s also when you’re in wind for a long time you tend to move around in your swing, so I’m very much divided.

“Last year, I wasn’t playing because they had horrible weather here; this year is a little bit more mild. It’s good preparation. You learn or get a little bit more used to the low shots and the half shots.”
