The success of the Weetabix Women’s British Open Championship at Royal Lytham & St. Annes in 2003 has resulted in the Lancashire course being named by the Ladies’ Golf Union as the venue for the 2006 Championship, from 3rd to 6th August.
This will be the third time that Royal Lytham has hosted the Championship and will generate huge interest from the knowledgeable golfing public in England’s North West. Last year a record crowd of over 75,000 attended during the week as World No.1 Annika Sorenstam completed her career Grand Slam with a one shot victory over Korean Se Ri Pak.
“Lytham was a great success last year and we are delighted to be returning so soon after Annika’s win,” said Andy Salmon, Chief Executive Officer of the Ladies’ Golf Union. “There was exceptional support from the golfing public and that underlines why, in two year’s time, this testing championship course will again be host to all of the world’s top women players.”
Sir Richard George, Chairman of Weetabix Ltd said, “Royal Lytham has been a wonderful venue for the Championship in both 1998 and 2003 and we look forward to returning in two year’s time. Great courses produce great champions and Lytham proved this to be true last year with Annika’s win to complete her Grand Slam.”

This year’s Weetabix Women’s British Open Championship will be played at Sunningdale Golf Club from 29th July to 1st August.
