Lunn wins Variety Club event

Karen Lunn from Australia won the 2004 Variety Club Pro-Celebrity Tournament, held at Kingswood GC in Surrey on Sunday.

Lunn, the Surrey-based LET player, fired a two under par 70 and finished one shot ahead of England’s Suzanne Dickens for the individual prize, but Dickens’ team, which included former England captain and the FA’s Director of Football Development Trevor Brooking, carded 90 points 18 under par total to win the team event.

A host of celebrities from the world of stage, screen and sport turned out to raise money for the Variety Club of Great Britain including former Arsenal and Northern Ireland international goalkeeper Pat Jennings, former England keeper Ray Clemence and actor Robert Powell.

“I would like to convey a special thanks Tom Hillard from Kingswood GC for providing such an excellent venue for the Variety Club Pro-Celebrity Tournament, John Spurling for providing the Sunshine coaches, Bruce McGuire for the excellent prizes and Jerry Stevens from the Variety Club of Great Britain Golfing Society for making the day such a resounding success,” said Phil Gibson, Tournament Director for the LET.
