British players Charley Hull, Melissa Reid, Amy Boulden and Holly Clyburn were out to support the future generation of female golfers as the Final of ‘Golf’s Got Talent’ took place at the ISPS HANDA Ladies European Masters on Tuesday.
Golfing non-profit charitable organisation The Golf Trust, which since February has given beginner golf lessons to 5,000 girls aged 9 to 11 years old in north and west London, identified 40 promising girl golfers to compete in the Final of its inaugural Golf’s Got Talent contest.
The Final involved four phases of points-based skills challenges, including Woods, Irons, Chipping and Putting, and the eventual winner showed the best all-round aptitude for these four vital areas of golf.
Jemma Huartson, aged 9, from Greenfield School in Watford, was named the inaugural champion and won a year’s coaching at The Golf Academy and membership of West London Golf Centre. She said: “I like to play sports and I love golf. I’ve been to the driving range quite a few times but never to a golf course so it’s great to be here and I hope to come back to watch the final round.”
The Golf’s Got Talent initiative forms part of the Ladies European Tour’s commitment to the development of golf globally and is one of a number of inspiring activities taking place at the ISPS HANDA Ladies European Masters this week, along with a secondary schools festival, visits from England Golf’s elite squads, and ISPS HANDA Academy disability group clinic and free lessons for everyone in the PING Swing Zone.
