LET MEMORIES: TIPSPORT CZECH LADIES OPEN

Carly Booth

After a small break, the LET season resumes this week with the Tipsport Czech Ladies Open taking place at Beroun Golf Club.

The tournament first appeared on the LET schedule two years ago when it was a dual-ranked event alongside the LET Access Series.

We reflect on the past two editions of the tournament…

2019 – Booth back in the winner’s circle

Scotland’s Carly Booth secured her third LET title, and her first in seven years, when she won the 2019 Tipsport Czech Ladies Open at Golf Resort Karlštejn.

Rounds of 68, 69 and 70 saw Booth finish with a 54-hole total of 207, nine-under-par, and finish one stroke ahead of Finland’s Sanna Nuutinen, France’s Anais Meysonnier and English pair Charlotte Thompson and Hayley Davis.

The Scottish star began her final round tied for the lead but had a topsy turvy day with seven birdies and five bogeys on her card.

Speaking after her win, Booth said: “I’m a little bit flabbergasted by the whole day. I played good golf and I really had to dig deep in the final round. I’m overwhelmed with happiness. It’s been seven years, so it’s a bit of a shock. Not knowing what the winning score was, I didn’t know anything about the leaderboard and I made a really solid par in the end.

“It’s a country that I love to visit, I’ve had some great results here in the Czech Republic in Pro-Ams and to win the tournament means more than anything. After seven years, finally, to get another victory, it’s amazing.”

2020 – Pedersen seals victory with an eagle

Denmark’s Emily Kristine Pedersen secured her second LET title at the 2020 edition of the tournament, winning by four shots at Beroun Golf Club.

Pedersen began the day six shots clear and the field closed in on the Danish star with her lead being cut to one shot with two holes to play.

But a birdie at 17 and an eagle on 18, thanks to an 80ft putt, ensured Pedersen clinched her first title in five years.

Commenting on her win, she said: “I wasn’t thinking about the score until after 16 and I was told I was one ahead so the birdie at 17 was really crucial for me. That eagle putt was a bonus. It was a bit of luck holing one that far, but it was nice to hole it, I’ll definitely remember it.

“It feels good to be back, the last two to three years have been hard, I’ve had doubts about whether I would compete again and I am so happy my coach didn’t quit on me, my friends didn’t quit on me, my boyfriend and my family, because it’s been tough, I’ve been tough on myself and had to figure out what needed to be done. It feels so good to be back.”
