It is another week on the road, as the Ladies European Tour completes its summer stretch of 13 tournaments back-to-back with the Lacoste Ladies Open de France.
The Open de France has been a regular fixture on the schedule with Golf du Medoc having hosted the past three and the Chateaux Course will be the venue this week.
Surrounded by 200-hectares of nature, the Bordeaux region presents a beautiful setting for the 17th LET event of the season. We dug back through the archives to take a look at the previous three editions.
2020 – Engstrom secures narrow victory
It was a second LET title of the 2020 season for Sweden’s Julia Engstrom when she produced a one-shot victory last year.
The 19-year-old began the final day four shots ahead of her nearest rivals after a round of 64 (-7) which included a hole-in-one the day before.
But the chasing pack closed the gap, and it was up to the Swede to hold on strong, which she did, to seal her second title of the year.
She said: “It was a fight out there today, Celine [Herbin] was pushing me hard and I could see she was making birdies, so I just tried to keep my head cold. This win was different, it is harder to defend. I’ve been in the lead and lost before so for me to get a win with the lead is a huge confident boost.”
2019 – Nelly Korda clinches first LET title
Coming off the back of playing for Team USA at the 2019 Solheim Cup, Nelly Korda shot a final round of 67 (-4) to win the Lacoste Ladies Open de France.
The American, who already had two LPGA Tour and one Symetra Tour title to her name, held a one-shot lead heading into the final round.
Six birdies and two bogeys saw Korda reach 15-under-par and meant the Florida golfer won by eight shots in Bordeaux.
“Conditions were tough, but I tried to stay level headed and I tried to keep my head down and make as many birdies as possible. I was consistent and hit a lot of fairways and greens, so I gave myself a lot of opportunities and my putting was quite good,” said the then 21-year-old.
2018 – Hedwall triumphs after remarkable final day
A stunning final round at the 2018 edition of the tournament saw Sweden’s Caroline Hedwall claim top honours at Golf du Medoc.
The Solheim Cup stalwart produced a flawless round of 62 (-9) to sign off her competition in style at the Chateaux Course.
A seven-year run without a win for Hedwall ended, as she finished two strokes ahead of South African Stacy Lee Bregman.
“It was a long time ago since I won, and it feels great to get another win under my belt. It has been a struggle over the past few years with quite a few injuries and it has been tough on my confidence,” explained Hedwall. “I haven’t felt good when I’m under pressure. Today, I really pulled it off and enjoyed being back there and in contention. I performed under pressure and that gives me a lot of confidence moving forward.”
