It’s that time of the year when the entire season culminates to one final event. Back in August, it was confirmed that the LET Access Series would culminate at the Santander Golf Tour LETAS El Saler near Valencia in Spain, for the final tournament of the year.
The £35,000 event will see the return of as many as 13 winners on tour this season, including 2017 Order of Merit winner Meghan MacLaren.
“Winning the OOM is something I’m proud of. It reflects one of the most important and underrated parts of golf – consistency. I feel like I have learned more about my golf in this one year as compared to my entire amateur career.”
MacLaren comes in on the heels of a tied 3rd finish at the LPGA Qualifying Tournament in Florida (Stage II) and will look to cap off what has been a glorious year, which includes one win and a further six top-10 finishes.
Right behind her, looking for a top-5 exemption to the Ladies European Tour are fellow professionals Valentine Derrey of France and England’s Charlotte Thompson.
Derrey has divided time between both tours this season and looks to finish on a high. “I have enjoyed playing on the LETAS this year – there were some great courses we played including Terre Blanche, Bossey, and Evian which were magnificent!”
Thompson, on the other hand, prefers to work on her short game coming into the week. “Plenty of putting rather than ball bashing as I call it. I am happy to be in third position and to have a great chance of gaining my full card for next season.”
Played at the par 72 course in Valencia, Spain – the tournament is part of the Santander Golf Tour, and will see 78 players tee it up between 25th – 27th of October.
The top five players at the end of the tournament will earn full LET cards for 2018. The next 15 players (not otherwise exempt) will earn a place in the final stage of the Lalla Aicha Tour School, scheduled in Morocco this December.
El Saler is situated in the Albufera Nature Park on the shores of the Mediterranean. Designed by Javier Arana, it opened in 1968, and shortly later was coined the best layout in Continental Europe.
In the past, it has hosted the European Tour’s Spanish Open which has seen winners such as two-time Masters champion Bernhard Langer and Raphael Jacquelin.
