Following the Australian swing, the Ladies European Tour (LET) and Sunshine Ladies Tour (SLT) head to Johannesburg this week for the Joburg Ladies Open.
The 11th edition of the Joburg Ladies Open kicks off the first of two events in the Rainbow Nation, with Modderfontein Golf Club on hosting duties for the fourth year in a row.
A total of 132 players representing 35 nationalities, will take to the fairways between 3-6 April, vying for their share of €300,000. The 2025 field is comprised of 90 LET, 36 SLT players, six invites including one amateur Gia Raad, as well as 17 South Africans and two LET Order of Merit winners teeing it up.
This event has been on the Sunshine Ladies Tour since 2015 and starting in 2022, co-sanctioned with the Ladies European Tour.
Until 2017, Royal Johannesburg and Kensington Golf Club hosted the tournament, before it moved to Modderfontein in 2018. It was played on to the refurbished Soweto Country Club for the following three years before returning to Modderfontein from 2022 onwards.
Switzerland’s Chiara Tamburlini will be hoping to defend her crown, after winning her maiden LET title at this tournament last year by seven shots, ahead of Thailand’s Aunchisa Utama. The Swiss had a stellar final round carding seven birdies, so has proved she can score low on this course.
Past tournament champions Lily May Humphreys (2023), Casandra Alexander (2021), Nobuhle Dlamini (2019), and Lee-Anne Pace (2016) are also in the field. With their wins included, in the stacked 132-player field, there are 38 LET Winners with a combined total of 66 LET wins.
Alexander, who lives in Joburg, will hope to continue her 2025 form into this week playing on home soil, having won the Jabra Ladies Classic last month, coming third in both the Supersport Ladies Challenge and Platinum Ladies Open, then a fifth-place finish in the ABSA Ladies Invitational on Saturday, all on the SLT. The 25-year-old came T13 last year, alongside France’s Agathe Sauzon, and will be hoping to improve her performance this year.
After four tournaments of the 2025 LET season, England’s Cara Gainer leads the Order of Merit and will be teeing it up this week. Gainer last played this tournament in 2023 and will be hoping to continue her flying start of the season over the next couple of weeks in South Africa.
Following Mimi Rhodes’ maiden win at the Ford Women’s NSW Open a week ago, the 23-year-old jumped into third position in the rankings and is also in the field. The full list of entries can be found here.
Following a cut of the top-60 players and ties on Friday, the final two tournament days will be available to watch live around the world. Full broadcast details will be listed on the LET website in the coming days.
Modderfontein Golf Club is a par-73 offering a parkland setting with firm greens and tree-lined fairways. These elements combined with challenging strategic bunkering provides for an excellent test of golf, even for the most accomplished golfer.
The winner of the Joburg Ladies Open will qualify for the Aramco Series – Korea. Additionally, there are two spots available for players in next week’s Investec South African Women’s Open, who have not otherwise qualified, who finish within the Top 10 and ties this week. Erinvale Country and Golf Estate will host the tournament for the second time.
