LEE HIGH ON CONFIDENCE HEADING INTO SAUDI SHOWDOWN

Minjee Lee is brimming with confidence heading into the fifth and final Aramco Team Series presented by PIF event of 2023 as she arrives in Riyadh off the back of two victories in her last three starts on the LPGA Tour.

It’s been a phenomenal six weeks for the Australian who secured wins at the Kroger Queen City Championship presented by P&G and BMW Ladies Championship either side of a T2 finish on the KLPGA at the Hana Financial Group Championship.

Rising to fourth in the Rolex Women’s World Golf Rankings in the process, Lee now has every right to feel good about her game as she tees up at the Aramco Team Series for the first time this season.

“I had a little bit of a slow start to the year,” the two-time Major winner said. “So with two wins in my last three starts [on the LPGA], I’m feeling pretty good about my game.

“I got a lot of confidence from that first win and then coming off the BMW [Ladies Championship] last week, I feel very good to be here.”

With the Team and Individual events running concurrently over the first two days this week, Lee will captain a side which includes Ladies European Tour (LET) rookies Louise Duncan from Scotland and Nastasia Nadaud from France, as well as one amateur player.

Returning to the Aramco Team Series for the second time in her career (Lee finished T11 at the London event two years ago), the Australian also arrives in Saudi Arabia having played Riyadh Golf Club – a new venue on the LET this week – once before.

“I’ve actually been here before but don’t remember a lot of the holes!” she said. “I was here a couple of years so maybe it’s changed a lot. The course is in great condition and I think the wind is a lot of its defence, so hopefully the wind is blowing and we have a good challenge ahead of us!”

Looking to secure a fourth LET title this week after winning the Oates Vic Open in 2018, the Omega Dubai Moonlight Classic in 2020, and The Amundi Evian Championship in 2021, the hot form has Lee in jubilant spirits as she also joked about her rivalry with brother Min Woo Lee who competes on the DP World Tour.

“I think Min Woo has a bit more of a rivalry with me,” Lee said. “But no, whenever I see him I feel like it’s a little bit more motivation for me to you know, step up my game as well.

“It’s always nice to see your family do well, on respective tours. I’ll always be his biggest supporter, and I think he is mine as well. So now it’s just really great that now we’ll be able to maybe see him a bit more in America. It’s nice.”

Lee and her squad of rookies get under way at the Aramco Team Series presented by PIF at 9:34am local time on Friday.
