After a difficult year England’s Bronte Law ended the season on a high recording her best finish of 2023 at the Aramco Team Series presented by PIF – Riyadh to give herself renewed optimism heading into 2024.
The two-time Ladies European Tour (LET) winner has struggled to find consistency this year making seven cuts on the LPGA before falling just short at Stage II Q-School two weeks ago.
With her best result on the LET coming back in March at Aramco Team Series – Singapore (Law finished T11), the Englishwoman arrived in Saudi Arabia looking to prove a point and put a tough year to bed.
“I’ve not had a good year at all,” Law said. “I’ve not been getting any luck. I know you’ve got to make your own luck, but I’ve really not been getting the rub of the green.”
Teaming with fellow Brits Meghan MacLaren and Chloe Williams over the first two days of action – a pair she knows all too well from her amateur days – Law did just that, rekindling her best form to first help her side to a runner-up finish in the 36-hole competition.
Reminiscent of when she won the Aramco Team Series – London Individual event in 2022, Law would then continue firing up the flatstick on Sunday shooting a sensational 65 (-7) to soar up the leaderboard and finish T4 on 17-under par.
“I’m really happy with myself,” the 28-year-old said. “For me, I’ve always tried to stay in a good headspace and tell myself that I’ve got to keep pushing along and working hard.
“That’s what I’ve been doing, so to get a result like this is a stepping stone in the right direction for me. It’s something to build on in the offseason ready for next year.”
Comfort seemed to be key for Law in Riyadh, with the two-time LET winner reunited with several friends and spurred on by ex-college teammate Alison Lee – the American producing one of the greatest performances ever seen as she cruised to a historic victory on 29-under par.
Law said: “I felt really relaxed this week. I’d been playing good golf heading into it but just haven’t been getting the results I wanted. I told myself this week to try and make as many birdies as possible and I think that put me in a really good headspace to be able to push forward. I never really looked back.
“[Me and Alison] are very good friends. We went to college together and have seen each other grow as players and also people. She’s a wonderful person but she’s also a fantastic golfer. I’m very proud of her and she deserves this. This will be the first of many because she’s playing amazing golf right now – losing in a playoff last week and now winning here. She’s the woman of the moment right now.”
With the T4 finish, her best result of 2023, Law jumps 35 places in the Race to Costa del Sol from 122nd to 87th, a position just shy of obtaining entry into the Mallorca Ladies Open next month.
But with her card guaranteed for next year (Law has winner’s exemption for one more year thanks to her Centurion heroics), the Solheim Cup star now has plenty of positives to take into the offseason as she looks to put a tough year behind her and kick on in 2024.
“It shows me that my game is right there and that I’m still capable of doing it,” Law said. “At times you start to question yourself. You need these weeks to prove to yourself that you’ve still got it and that you’re more than capable of success.
“I’m going to keep working with my psychologist in the offseason. He’s done a fantastic job in helping me to alter my mindset. I’ll be working a lot of with my coaches too and will put a line in the sand on this season. I’m looking forward from here on.”
