LET Rookie Lauren Taylor from England recorded her eighth hole in one during the second round of the Deloitte Ladies Open at The International – Amsterdam Airport.
The 19-year-old from Rugby used her 5-iron to ace the par-3 seventh from 157 yards, into the wind uphill, to the flag.
“It was a really good shot. I was going to hit a six-iron and then I thought the wind’s there and it’s uphill. I’ll just hit a five and the wind was off the left so I hit it straight at it, because I normally hit a draw,” she said.
“It landed three feet short of the hole and rolled in and I heard the people around the green. There is nothing that goes through your mind when you have a hole in one, your mind goes blank because you haven’t got a next shot. When you’re walking up, there’s no putt!
“KLM have offered me a flight so it’s nice to get a prize. My dad needs a flight back to England so I might use it for him.”
Taylor has played well in the Netherlands. She won the Pon Cat Dutch Junior Open three years in a row from 2011-2013 and would have qualified for the Deloitte Ladies Open as an amateur if she had not turned professional.
This is her third straight appearance in the Deloitte Ladies Open, although she finished tied 57th and tied 53rd respectively in her last two appearances in the event.
“I like Holland because I’ve won here a few times. I played well all day. It feels pretty sour to finish with a bogey but you can’t control what happens,” said Taylor, after rounds of 74 and 71 to be sitting on one-under 145 in a share of eighth place in the 54-hole event.
“It was tough conditions this afternoon. Between and one and two club wind. The 18th was a very strong wind off the left so I played well. I think you have to, to score around here.”
Lauren’s last hole in one was during the 2011 Allianz Ladies Slovak Open, when she had two consecutive eagles on the par-5 fourth and par-3 fifth, just after winning the British Amateur Championship at Royal Portrush.
