Ines Laklalech has all eyes on her at the Lalla Meryem Cup as she pursues a lifelong dream of winning on home soil at Royal Golf Dar Es Salam.
The Moroccan who dreamt of playing in the event when she was young will be teeing up in the tournament for a second time and will look to go better than last year’s result of tied 45th.
“My confidence is getting better each week,” Laklalech said, “My game feels good, it’s improving. I’ve been working a lot the last few months and I hope that the work will start to pay off a little bit.”
Laklalech made history for her homeland in 2022. The then-rookie created headlines when she became the first Moroccan, Arab and North African to win an LET title at the Lacoste Ladies Open De France.
“Winning here would mean the world. It would be like winning a major.
“It’s a dream of mine. I hold it very close to my heart and I just hope it will happen soon.”
The Lalla Meryem Cup is staged at the same time as the Hassan II Trophy, a PGA Tour champions event.
Speaking about sharing the venue with the men, Laklalech said: “The fact that we are sharing the same golf club and the same practice facilities is a great thing.
“It helps grow the game. I will probably watch and be inspired by some of the Spanish guys.
“I’m currently working on my short game, and I know that they have a really nice touch.”
Laklalech will tee up at 13:12pm local time in round one alongside Germany’s Olivia Cowan, winner of the 2022 Hero Women’s Indian Open and Mexico’s Maria Fassi.
