Set two weeks after the Evian Championship, the Lacoste Ladies Open de France will boast a stellar field in the wake of the year’s fifth Major. Indeed, five members of the European team, who successfully defended the Solheim Cup at the Colorado Golf Club from August 16-18, will headline the field at Chantaco from September 26-29.
Following the announcement of France’s Karine Icher and Spain’s Azahara Muñoz presence a few weeks ago, their Solheim Cup teammates Carlota Ciganda from Spain and Charley Hull from England add their names to the field. All four players took part in the recent 18-10 triumph near Denver, Colorado, the first for any European side on American soil. With the addition of Swede Carin Koch, an assistant captain during the 13th edition of the biennial clash between Europe and the United States, not less than five Solheim Cup winners will headline the field of the 2013 Lacoste Ladies Open de France.
A participant of the 2002 Solheim Cup, 34-year-old Icher was a veteran in this year’s European team. With two and a half points gained in four matches, the Frenchwoman played a big part in her side’s historical success. Icher player her two foursomes with Spaniard Muñoz, the pair winning their first match but losing the second. The 25-year-old from Málaga, who also made her second Solheim Cup appearance two years after her debut, is likely to enjoy the reunion with her teammate in the Basque country. As for Ciganda, 23, and Hull, 17, both youngsters made a shining first appearance in the competition. The unbeatable Spaniard won all of her three matches, while the Englishwoman, who scored two out of three possible points, romped to a stunning 5&4 victory over American Paula Creamer in her single on Sunday.
Two weeks after the Evian Championship, where all the best players in the world will gather for the tournament’s first edition as a Major championship, French golf fans will have another occasion to admire some of the finest swings of the planet. Rendezvous at Chantaco from September 26-29!
