La Sella Open, a competition included in the Ladies European Tour (LET) calendar, held at La Sella Golf course in Alicante between 19 and 22 September with the participation of the best golfers of the LET, exudes spectacle and glamour even before the great sporting duel begins.

La Sella Open was designated by the players themselves as the best tournament of the LET in 2023 due to the quality of the facilities and the treatment received by the organisers. Now, it faces its second edition with the same ingredients that made it so beloved when it first made waves in the world of professional women’s golf.

The affection shown was evident in a colourful opening ceremony presented by José Manuel Lara, a renowned Valencian professional golfer who has been linked to La Sella Golf for many years. He masterfully conducted the gala from the moment the enthusiastic players arrived.

The general atmosphere of joy generated at the Denia Marriott La Sella Golf Resort & Spa reached its peak when Carlos García, Director of La Sella Golf, pointed out that La Sella Open is, with €1 million, the women’s golf tournament with the highest total prize money in the history of Spain. “Above all”, he said, “this is a tournament designed for the players. It’s your tournament. There are others with bigger budgets and more experience, but none so involved in making you happy during your stay. We’re going to try again with all our hearts.” These touching words were greeted with a standing ovation from the golfers.

Images were projected on a giant screen of the inaugural edition won by the Spaniard Nuria Iturrioz after overcoming an exciting playoff. This was followed by some words from Céline Herbin, local player of La Sella, Joao Pinto, tournament director, and Vicente Grimalt, mayor of Denia, who highlighted how important this magnificent, internationally renowned event is for the town of Alicante. But one of the most anticipated moments for the players was the tasting of a menu designed by the winner of the previous edition, Nuria Iturrioz.

In the image of the Augusta Masters, her choice had a Spanish, Mediterranean and Balearic touch and consisted of ham croquettes, tuna tartare, Galician octopus, Mallorcan pa amb oli with sobrasada, Mahon cheese, Iberian ham, camaiot, salmorejo, Spanish omelette, prawns with garlic, etc. And for dessert, torrijas, cheesecake and rice pudding.

The players themselves loved the champions-style dinner initiative at Augusta, warmly congratulating Nuria Iturrioz for her gastronomic taste. This festive, relaxed atmosphere was the perfect introduction to the La Sella Open, the tournament with €1 million in prize money that has become known as “a tournament for the ladies”.
