Stephanie Kyriacou is enjoying a little taste of home as she takes on the challenge of the Old Course at St Andrews this week.
The Australian star is used to playing in the wind back home in Sydney with her home golf course being on the coast.
Despite the slightly colder weather, Kyriacou is enjoying the conditions at the 2024 AIG Women’s Open.
“I love links golf,” she said. “My golf course at home is right on the water, so I play in the wind a lot. It’s a little taste of home. There’s something about being creative and the challenge that gets me excited.
“I’m wearing like six layers, but I was taking the last jacket on and off. Today was much better actually. We didn’t really have much wind in the morning, but now it’s blowing.”
In the fourth major of the year, the Amundi Evian Championship, Kyriacou finished second behind Japan’s Ayaka Furue – her best result in a major championship.
Thanks to the points she accumulated from her second-place finish at Evian, the Australian secured her spot this week through the 2024 LET Order of Merit.
The two-time LET winner opened with a 76 (+4) in Scotland but had a better second day with a 68 (-4) making her total after 36 holes even par and is looking forward to the weekend.
She continued: “Yesterday, at the start of the round I just got in my own way, in my own head. I was almost intimidated by the conditions and the course, but then once I kind of got over that and grew up a little bit, it made it a lot easier.
“Obviously, it sucked a little bit that I didn’t win [Evian], but to put myself in the position, considering how I’ve played the start of the year, I was quite happy. It’s given me more opportunities. It got me into this event. I was happy with it.”
