Back in June, KPMG – a long-term supporter of women’s sport and women’s sport in Ireland – announced they were launching their new ‘Books for Birdies’ initiative.
KPMG teamed up with Irish professional golfer and KPMG ambassador Leona Maguire, who is about to become a two-time Solheim Cup player, to launch the initiative.
It will see one children’s book donated by KPMG to local communities near the Dromoland area for every birdie recorded by Leona Maguire and subsequently by every player at this year’s KPMG Women’s Irish Open.
The KPMG Books for Birdies campaign, in partnership with Children’s Books Ireland, kicked off as Maguire teed it up at the Mizuho Americas Open in New Jersey, USA on the LPGA Tour and concludes on the final day of the 2023 KPMG Women’s Irish Open.
Through this initiative, KPMG expects to donate over €20,000 worth of children’s books to local schools in nearby Newmarket-on-Fergus and a number of DEIS schools in and around Dromoland Castle, Co Clare.
KPMG has been a proud partner of Children’s Books Ireland since 2017, running a number of initiatives such as Bold Girls and Free To Be Me workshops as well as sponsoring the KPMG Children’s Books Ireland Awards. The Awards have been running for over thirty years and offer a total prize fund of €16,000 across six categories. This year’s KPMG Children’s Books Ireland Awards took place last month in Merrion Square.
Speaking at the time, Maguire said: “I am thrilled to be a part of KPMG’s Books for Birdies campaign. Over the years, I have made some fantastic memories around Dromoland Castle, and I am very glad to have the opportunity to give back to a community which has provided me and women’s golf in Ireland with so much. It certainly will add that little bit of excitement to my game as we keep track of the books we will be donating to the Dromoland area.”
The 2023 KPMG Women’s Irish Open will be staged for the second time at Dromond Castle, Co. Clare from 31st August to 3rd September. Tickets are now on sale at https://kpmgwomensirishopen.ie/.
