Sarah Kemp will never forget what happened on August 10, 2024 when she suffered a compound fracture of her leg in a freak golf cart accident.
However, nearly one year on from the date of the accident and the Australian has a trophy in her hands at the PIF London Championship.
The 39-year-old was part of the winning Team Du Toit, who conquered Centurion Club with a score of 29-under-par from the two days of competition.
South Africa’s Danielle Du Toit, who got into the tournament one day before it started, captained Kemp, Spain’s Marta Sanz Barrio and England’s Megan Dennis.
After being five strokes behind in the Team competition after day one, the quartet rallied on the second day posting a score of 16-under-par to climb to the top of the leaderboard and take home the trophy.

Speaking in the press conference, Kemp said: “The coolest part about it is it was actually a year ago tomorrow – the day of the accident. This is a nice recovery present.
“I didn’t play as well when I came back – I think I finished fourth in Australia on the LET, and I don’t think I was quite ready. I just holed everything. I didn’t realise how much my swing had changed.
“I went over to the States and struggled. I didn’t keep enough points to keep my full status there. I’m playing next week on the LPGA but have lost my full status. I thought I’d come back and play some on the LET, which literally got me into this week.
“Thank goodness I did that and I’m here. I’m just so happy. We had such a great couple of days and I hope that I get to play more of these – they’ve been so much fun.
“It hasn’t been a year I’ve loved, but my leg is almost back to normal – the best it’s been in a long time. To do something like this on the one-year anniversary is so cool. A year ago, looking down at my leg and the whole situation, I’d have said no chance. This is really cool.”
