KEH SISTERS BOTH HAPPY TO BE THROUGH TO FINAL STAGE AT Q-SCHOOL

The Lalla Aicha Qualifying School has been a family affair for the Keh sisters, Munchin and Wenyung who have both progressed to the Final Stage by finishing tied seventh and T13, respectively, at the Pre-Qualifiers at Palmerie Rotana.

The New Zealand golfers are no strangers to Final Stage after they both experienced last year’s event at La Manga Golf Club in Spain.

However, their experiences were contrary with Wenyung finishing 25th and earning LET playing rights, while Munchin finished 114th and missed the final cut but now the older of the sisters is keen for history not to repeat itself.

“This week has been fun,” Munchin joked, “Okay maybe not fun but it’s been alright. Coming off from playing last week in Australia was quite good for building my confidence.

“I didn’t have any expectations this week and it was fun. I got my game together which is good and now I’m looking forward to next week.”

Munchin finished T24 at the ISPS Handa Australian Open at the start of December, the week before flying out to Europe.

The Keh sisters are now fully aware of the challenge ahead of them but credit having each other as a big bonus.

“We both reached finals last year in Spain,” Munchin explained. “So, learning from that, we need a solid game plan and to just be patient out there. It’s not always about trying to get that birdie, but you just need to keep it in play and give yourself a chance.”

Wenyung added, “It’s about playing steady and being smart. It’s about knowing when to go for it and when not to go for it. Par golf is usually good, but we’ll see if the pressures on. It’s a long time five rounds.

“Being together makes it less lonely, I’m glad that she’s here with me and I played all this year by myself, so it was quite lonely. I’m glad we’re both out here now.”

Munchin responded: “It’s comfortable having a familiar face and that one person who’s always supporting you. The only downside is when she beats me. Nah! We are competitive in practice but then when we are playing tournaments, we just want each other to do well.”

Wenyung agreed: “Competitiveness helps us in practice. I think especially with pressure shots.”

It’s the first time in Marrakesh and Morocco for both sisters and they are both hoping to find some time to relax in-between the two stages of Q-School.

“It’s our first time here and it’s nice,” said Wenyung. “It’s here. We haven’t seen much of it but hopefully, before finals we will see something.”

Munchin replied: “Maybe we will take half a day rest, but we still got to grind, it’s not over yet.”
