A common phrase in golf is ‘one shot at a time’ but that’s especially true for Sara Kouskova at this week’s Jabra Ladies Open.
The Czech star normally has that mindset during tournaments, however on the challenging Champions Course at Evian Resort Golf Club it is extremely important.
Kouskova, who has two top-10 finishes in 2025, has been making sure she is staying committed to her shots and game plan.
It worked on the first day of the competition as the 25-year-old recorded a bogey-free round of 66 (-5) to sit in a share of second place.
“We just did what we wanted to do, what we said to do before the round and before the tournament,” she said. “We really wanted to keep very much present and really one shot at a time.
“More than on other courses, here it’s so important to be focusing on that one shot and be committed. Some pins, even though they’re in a hard position, you need to attack them, and I think that’s what was really good.”
Kouskova was not happy with every shot she made on the golf course and had to save par at some holes; however, she managed to remain bogey-free.
The Czech player was putting for birdie a lot of the time and even though she didn’t feel like her putting was on point, the putts were still dropping.
She continued: “I hit really good shots, and I had some really bad ones, that I managed to save after and then I had a couple of lucky bounces too. I putted really solidly. I just let my body do its thing.
“Some days you feel you’re putting well and that wasn’t the case today. It was just dropping into the hole, and I accepted it, I was happy for it but I didn’t pressure myself to do anything.
“There were two big saves on the last two holes because the body knew we were coming closer to home, and we were still bogey-free. Obviously, the head starts thinking and I really tried to push that to the back of my mind. I had two poor iron shots into the greens, but apart from that it was good.
“My stats today should be impressive in terms of the iron shots because I think I was only outside of six metres one or two times. I missed three greens and the rest I was always putting for a birdie. I had really good numbers from Jakub and really good conversations about the shots.”
Kouskova will begin her second round at 8.55 am (local time) on Friday at Evian Resort Golf Club.
