IRELAND IS NEXT STOP ON THE SCHEDULE FOR LET

Dromoland Castle

After a one-week break, the Ladies European Tour (LET) is ready for the next stretch of events and returns to Ireland for the next stop on the 2023 schedule.

The KPMG Women’s Irish Open is back for the second year in a row, after its triumphant return in 2022 following a ten-year hiatus.

Dromoland Castle is once again hosting and there will be 126 players from 28 nations teeing it up in a 72-hole stroke play tournament with a prize fund of €400,000.

It’s a picturesque venue for the 21st LET event of the season where the winner will be crowned on September 3.

Defending champion Klara Davidson Spilkova is in town after she secured her second LET title here defeating Finland’s Ursula Wikstrom and Denmark’s Nicole Broch Estrup in a playoff in 2022.

The Czech star sits sixth in the 2023 Race to Costa del Sol having recorded five top-10 results so far this season.

While runners-up Wikstrom and Broch Estrup also return to the venue where they played so well last year and will be hoping to go one better.

Ireland’s Leona Maguire is the best-ranked player in the field this week as she is number 14 in the Rolex Women’s World Golf Rankings.

The home favourite, who hails from Cavan, finished in a tie for fourth place at last year’s edition after rounds of 67-75-65-68.

Of those who finished in the top 10 last year, nine players return including England’s Gabriella Cowley who comes into this tournament off the back of a T2 finish at the ISPS HANDA World Invitational where she was defeated in a playoff.

Winners from this year on the LET playing this week are Diksha Dagar, Kristyna Napoleaova, Lisa Pettersson, Patricia Isabel Schmidt and Lily May Humphreys.

No fewer than eight Irish players will be teeing it up this week with Leona Maguire joined by seven Irish amateurs, while there are also two players from Northern Ireland teeing it up with Olivia Mehaffey and Victoria Craig both invites.
