Best friends Charley Hull and Georgia Hall will be playing together in the first two rounds of the 2025 KPMG Women’s Irish Open.
The English duo have been paired alongside Ireland’s Sara Byrne – a rookie on the LET – for the first two days of competition on the O’Meara Course at Carton House, A Fairmont Managed Hotel.
Hall played at the 2024 edition of the tournament and got to experience the large crowds who came out to watch.
The two-time LET winner will be playing alongside Hull in a stroke play event for the first time in many years and is excited for the week ahead.
“I’m really happy to be back, I really enjoyed the area and the golf course,” said the Major champion. “It’s my second home over here.
“It’s nice to see some more Solheim Cup players and we had loads of fans last year. I was shocked in a good way; we get more than we would in England. I’m excited to see them all back again.
“I feel a lot happier now that the European swing is starting, I feel in a better mindset and I’m playing pretty decent. I’m confident to get this week going. The course is in really good condition; it’s playing similar to last year quite soft. It’ll be interesting to see what the scores are like.
“It’s the first time in about ten years that I’ve been paired with Charley. That will be nice. I’ve heard Sara is a great player, a very strong player. I’ve never met her, but I’m excited for that.
“It’s been a very long time since me and Charley have been paired together. That will be great, I’m sure it will be competitive. She’s my best friend and I’m sure we’ll really enjoy it out there and it will be like playing at home at Wentworth.”
Hull is making her first appearance in the KPMG Women’s Irish Open having last competed in Ireland back in 2011 at the PING Junior Solheim Cup.
The Solheim Cup star watched the event on TV in 2024 when friend Annabel Dimmock was victorious and saw how many spectators attended.
After a week at home, the four-time LET winner is looking forward to teeing it up alongside Hall and kicking off the European swing.
“It’s going to be really fun,” said Hull. “I haven’t played with Georgia in a tournament for years in a stroke play event. I saw Annabel [Dimmock] won this event last year and we were watching on TV and saw there were loads of crowds and atmosphere, so it will be great.
“Last time I was in Ireland was the PING Junior Solheim Cup in 2011, it’s nice I like it. I went into Dublin last night and went to a steak restaurant and then Temple Bar for a bit which was good fun.
“For the European swing, I’ve got the Women’s Irish Open and then Evian. I thought it would be great to play this event and it’s a good warm up for next week as well. Then week off followed by Scottish, AIG and London. It’s a busy stretch of events but it doesn’t feel that busy because we’re in Europe. Last week at home was lovely, I spent time with my family and my nephews and just chilled.”
Hall, Hull and Byrne will tee it up in the first round of the KPMG Women’s Irish Open at 2 pm (local time) on Thursday.
