(Club de Campo Mediterràneo, Castellón, Spain – 13th May 2007) – England’s Rebecca Hudson has taken a step further towards her dream of earning a place on The 2007 European Solheim Cup Team after a superb second place performance in the Ladies Spanish Open in Castellon.
Prior to the Spanish Open, Hudson, 27, ranked fifth in the European Solheim Cup standings – just inside the cut off point for automatic selection. Having finished second in the Spanish Open she has earned an extra 24 Solheim Cup points and she is now fourth on the qualification list with 77.67 points.
France’s Gwladys Nocera still tops the list, with 138 points; Laura Davies is second with 112 points and Sweden’s Annika Sorenstam is third with 83.5 points. France’s Stephanie Arricau has dropped into the fifth spot with 57.40 points. Meanwhile Italy’s Vernoica Zorzi and Spain’s Tania Elosegui are ranked sixth and seventh on the list respectively and they are both in the running to make their debut in the biennial transatlantic competition which takes place from 14-16 September at Halmstad Golfklubb in Sweden.
The top five players on the list after the Wales Ladies Championship in August will take the first five spots on the 12-player European Solheim Cup Team that will face the Americans in September. The remaining places will be filled by the next best four Europeans on the Rolex Rankings and three of European Captain Helen Alfredsson’s picks.
Solheim Cup points are awarded to European players for top ten finishes in Ladies European Tour events.
