Ian Lee, Vice Chairman of Northern Ireland Events Golf Committee added: “Golf plays a significant role in the Tourism industry of Northern Ireland as we have some of the best courses in the world, alongside breathtaking scenery and a warm welcome. For this reason, the Northern Ireland Events Company has agreed to a three year programme to host a Ladies European Tour event in 2007, 2008 and 2009. The event delivers over £2.4m of international media coverage and we anticipate that the event will deliver significant economic benefit to the region.”
The Northern Ireland Ladies Open will also be supported by Antrim Borough Council and the Irish Ladies Golf Union.
The Mayor of Antrim, Alderman Sam Dunlop, said: “Antrim Borough Council is proud to support the Northern Ireland Ladies Open. As part of the Ladies European Tour, this prestigious event will place Antrim and the excellent facilities it has to offer on the map for many golfers. The Hilton Course is amongst one of the finest in Northern Ireland and with ease of access, it makes an ideal location for such a high profile event.
“Hosting sporting events of this calibre will not only benefit those from within the Borough but also help develop sport across the whole of the province. I would encourage all young ladies interested in golf to come along, support the event and enjoy some of the best of ladies golf in Europe.”
