Mireia Prat from Spain made a fantastic start to her second round when she had a hole in one at the par-3 11th, playing as her second hole, in the Sanya Ladies Open on Saturday morning. Prat used a 6-iron to ace the 127-metre (140-yard) hole in warm and sunny conditions at Yalong Bay Golf Club.
The perfect shot, which landed a metre short and then rolled into the hole, earned her a two night stay in the Chairman’s Suite at Four Points by Sheraton in Sanya Bay, Hainan.
This was Prat’s first hole in one in tournament play and she said: “I have made three in practice but I felt different this time; I felt like crying and it was exciting because it gave me more confidence for the rest of the round.”
After rounds of 79 and 75 for a two round total of 154, 10 over par, Prat added: “Although I will miss the cut, I will take home a really special memory and I will never forget it! Maybe I can use my stay here next year.”
This is the second hole in one at the Sanya Ladies Open, after Belen Mozo, also from Spain, aced the third hole in 2010.
In 2013, Prat, 25, from Barcelona, played mainly on the LET Access Series where she won the Ocho Golf Ladies Open and Costa Blanca Ladies Open before capturing the LETAS order of merit. This year on the LET, she is lying 89th on the order of merit after 16 events played with a season best tie for 14th at the Sberbank Golf Masters in the Czech Republic.
