Meghan MacLaren is on the verge of making history as the first champion in mixed professional golf.
The 23-year-old Englishwoman, who is a champion for the strength of the women’s professional game, carded consecutive opening rounds of 65 to take a two-shot lead into the final round of the Jordan Mixed Open presented by Ayla, which is under way at Ayla Golf Club in Aqaba.
Starting the final round on 14-under-par, ahead of Challenge Tour player Daan Huizing, she is looking to continue to spread her larger message to the golfing world.
A win would be her second victory of the year, and third LET title in total, adding to her Solheim Cup points total, after she successfully defended her Women’s NSW Open title in February.
Conditions are favourable for low scoring this afternoon, with mainly cloudy skies, highs of 28C and a light south-south-westerly breeze with speeds of 5-10 miles per hour.
MacLaren carded 15 birdies and only one bogey through two rounds and with 20 LET players, 21 over 50s Staysure Tour players and 25 European Challenge Tour players out today, it will be fascinating to see how the final round unfolds.
