Helen Alfredsson may have retired from top level competition but she is certainly not slowing down!

On Monday, Helen organised the fifth edition of Hjärnslaget, a charity golf day at Täby Golf Klubb which raised 150,000 euros for Alzheimers research and education.

Helen’s mother died from the disease five years ago and speaking ahead of the Helsingborg Open, where she is commentating, she said: “The World Health Organisation says it’s a major problem so it’s time to do something.”

Several past and present Ladies European Tour players were involved, including The 2015 European Solheim Cup Captain Carin Koch, Sandra Carlborg, Maria Boden, Julia Davidsson, Elin Emanuelsson and Lotta Wahlin, as well as Carin’s strategic advisor Fany Sunesson.

Carin said: “I made sure that I found time to play in Helen’s charity day in aid of Alzheimer’s. It’s a cause close to my heart as my mum has the disease and it’s a priority for me to play in every year.”

“This was the fifth year and people were very supportive,” added Helen, a Life Member of the Ladies European Tour who claimed 21 tournament wins over 24 years at golf’s top level. This included three Evian Masters titles, the last of which came in 2008, the year she finished second at the US Women’s Open.

Helen played in eight Solheim Cups and was the 2007 European Team Captain at Halmstad GK in Sweden. She also successfully captained the 2003 PING European Junior Solheim Cup Team at Bokskogens GK.

Helen announced her retirement from Tour golf at the 2013 Helsingborg Open and although she is not playing in this year’s tournament, her presence at Vasatorps GK is sure to inspire the next generation of Swedish golfers to shoot lower scores!
