HALL MAKES FIRST-EVER HOLE-IN-ONE AT MAGENTA SHORES

Lydia Hall achieved a first during the second round of the Australian Women’s Classic as she aced the third hole at Magenta Shores Golf & Country Club.

The LET winner has never had an ace on her scorecard before and even during practice hasn’t managed a true slam dunk.

But that all changed during the second round when she hit her pitching wedge on the third and made her first hole-in-one from 119 yards.

“It’s terrifying, that’s 19 years in and my first hole-in-one! No, it’s my first one ever in anything,” she said. “I’ve had a hole-in-three at Royal Canberra in practice when I’ve hit one and then a practice one and it’s gone in, but I’ve never had one ever.

“It was one of those things that I just thought was never going to happen because others would say they’ve had six or seven. There’s a first time for everything.”

The ace helped ensure the 2026 Vic Open champion made it through to the weekend after recording a round of 71 (-1) on Friday, despite starting her day with a triple bogey.

Unfortunately, Hall didn’t see the ball go into the hole for her ace, but a couple of spectators celebrated wildly at the back of the green after the shot.

She explained: “We couldn’t see it because it was in a little bowl behind the bunker on three. It was 119 yards to the pin. I hit a little pitching wedge, and my pitch mark was three or four short of it and there were two guys at the back going nuts.

“Two holes prior to that, we thought Stef [Hall] had holed her second shot on 18 because the people at the back were going crazy but she was three-feet away, so we weren’t sure if it was in for sure. But we went up there and it was in the hole.

“I guess I’m going to be buying at least a couple of rounds of drinks for the house tonight. It’s nice to be playing the weekend because the way I started was not looking good. I had a triple down 10, three-over for the tournament wasn’t looking ideal but I knew I had to hang in there and it will be exciting to play the weekend a bit more free.”
