English duo Georgia Hall and Charley Hull are raring to go in front of a home crowd at the Aramco Team Series presented by PIF – London.
The pair have played in both previous editions of the tournament, which is being held once again at Centurion Club.
And Hull comes into this week in fine form having secured a T2 finish at last week’s U.S. Women’s Open at Pebble Beach after a final round of 66 (-6).
“It was an amazing golf course; I really enjoyed it and I played really well,” said Hull. “I feel like my game is in good shape especially now going into this stretch of tournaments with Evian and AIG Women’s Open. I feel really good.
“It’s always good to play the best tracks like the men do. They’re harder golf course and I find it helps my game, but it 100% helps the women’s game and gets more people watching because they’re more interested to see how we can perform on those historic golf courses.”
Hull is a captain this week and picked Sweden’s Isabella Deilert in the Draft before fellow English player Hayley Davis was added to the team.
The trio will be joined by former England footballer Teddy Sheringham, who will be the amateur in Team Hull when they tee off at 8.26 am local time on Friday.
After her good finish at the third Major of the year, the three-time LET winner explained the reasons behind her form this season.
She explained: “I had a good start to the season and came second and had a couple of top-10s, then I missed a couple of cuts because my swing wasn’t quite there, and I was ill as well. I had to take four weeks off and slowly started to feel better and now I’m match fit again. It all clicked into place.
“I have been playing well all season, hitting it well and everything but it was confidence. I have been struggling mentally this year not on the golf course but off the golf course. I had to fix my head to get better, and I feel better, and it just shows on the golf course that when you’re healthy you can play good golf.”
At last year’s edition of the Aramco Team Series – London, Hall finished second when she was beaten by Bronte Law who sunk her monster eagle putt on the 18th hole.
And despite missing the cut at the past two Majors, Hall is hoping that playing in front of a home crowd will help this week.
“I love coming back to play this event,” said the world number 14 in the Rolex Women’s World Golf Rankings. “Obviously, I have a lot of great memories and great results here. We’ll see how it goes.
“I played well last year, and these things happen. It’s very up and down and that’s golf. I feel confident going into this week and obviously, it’s a fairly strong field again.
“It means a lot to have people here. I get a bit more excited to play in front of them. Some people haven’t seen me kind of hit a ball for like a year, so it’s really nice. In the evenings is I get to take my mind off golf a little bit easier than I do when I’m just going back to the hotel in the States. I just love being home while I can, so extra happy about that.”
In the Team event, Hall picked Scotland’s Kylie Henry at the Draft and they will also be joined by Wales’ Lea Anne Bramwell, as well as amateur Michael Austick.
And having had success around here before with a fourth-place finish in 2021 and second-place finish in 2022, the Major champion is excited for the test that Centurion provides.
She explained: “The par-fives are all reachable for me, so makes that part is slightly easier, but we’ll see. I think it’s quite a different course to last year and I think we’re going to have slightly different weather. It may be a bit tougher and not as warm.
“I think the tree lines, especially on the first four, five holes are really pretty and kind of like zooms you into hitting it straight very quickly because you can get penalized. Obviously, I like the greens. I’m used to growing up in greens like this and practising with slightly slower green speeds, that suits me a lot with putting.”
The first round of the Aramco Team Series – London will begin at 6.45 am local time on Friday with the final group teeing it up at 2.20 pm local time.
