GUSTAVSSON TRUSTING HER GAME AT THE AMUNDI EVIAN CHAMPIONSHIP

Johanna Gustavsson

Evian Resort Golf Club is a place where Johanna Gustavsson seems to thrive and it’s the same this week as she gets ready to tee it up in the final round of the 2023 Amundi Evian Championship.

The Swede played here earlier this season at the Jabra Ladies Open where she finished in a share of fourth place, while she made the cut this week in tough conditions.

This is the eighth time that the 30-year-old has competed here and despite encountering some of the toughest conditions, she is enjoying her week in France.

“It’s a fun week,” she said. “I like it here, I always have! I got a bit of a shock the first day because the greens were played very quick and they were playing quite firm and the pins were tough.

“Yesterday was very windy and I must have played nearly 10 events here and this week is the toughest setup but also the conditions that I have played. You get to see some new places that you maybe haven’t been before.

“I always like coming here. I tend to play quite well here. I play this course more than my home course it feels like! I see the greens quite well. The first day I didn’t put that well because there’s normally a lot more grain because the greens are a bit longer, so I had to adjust that and today I holed some really nice putts and I felt that I was close again.”

At the end of day three, Gustavsson sits in a share of 23rd place on one-under-par after rounds of 70-75-67.

The Swede, who is sixth in the 2023 Race to Costa del Sol, has recorded five top-10 finishes on the LET so far this season and is looking for her best finish in a major.

She explained: “I played very well last week in Spain, I felt like I could have done better than I did there. My game is in a good position, I just have to trust it and keep trusting it.

“Tomorrow I will try and keep doing what I have been doing, one shot at a time. It’s a cliché but it’s true and keep sticking to my processes to trust my shot and trust my decisions, be very clear where I aim and be kind to myself. I think I can do alright if I just trust it.

“I am happy to be here, last year I was happy to be here but not maybe the weeks afterwards. I’m excited for the weeks coming up as well, so that’s really important.”

Gustavsson will tee it up in her final round at 10.35 am (local time) alongside Japan’s Miyu Yamashita.
