GRIMSTAD FIGHTS BACK TO CLIMB UP THE LEADERBOARD AT LALLA AICHA Q-SCHOOL

Renate Grimstad

Renate Grimstad fired a round of 66 (-7) on the fourth day of the Final Stage of Lalla Aicha Q-School in Morocco.

The Norwegian found herself with some work to do after the first three rounds of competition as she sat in a tie for 60th place.

Grimstad produced rounds of 72 (E) and 71 (-1) at Royal Golf De Marrakech but struggled on her visit to Al Maaden Golf carding a 76 (+3).

However, the 26-year-old turned things around on her return to Al Maaden shooting a round of seven-under to move up to a tie for 24th place.

“I feel like it’s been a long time coming,” she said. “I’ve had some really good rounds in the making lately, but I just haven’t been able to make enough putts and give myself enough chances to shoot a really good one.

“Today I finally had a lot of putts drop. I just kept hitting it well off the tee and giving myself chances on the greens. I wasn’t really worried about it going into today.

“I knew this was the course to do it on and I’m happy this is the course I got to play on in the fourth round. Obviously, it’s always fun to put it together when you have to and get it to go that way.”

Grimstad teed off on the 10th and began with a bogey but soon rolled in a birdie on 12 and an eagle on 13 before further birdies on 15 and 18.

The University of Miami graduate then made three more birdies on holes five, seven and eight to make a big move ahead of the final round.

She added: “I have a lot of confidence for tomorrow. I was happy to play well here today because I know we’re playing here tomorrow, and this is the course where it happens.

“There’s a lot of good players here tomorrow who will for sure kill this course. I’m going to stick to the game plan and the momentum from today – that’s pretty much all I can do and see what happens from there.”

The final round will begin at 9.30 am (local time) with Grimstad teeing off at 10.03 am alongside Panama’s Laura Sluman and Spain’s Teresa Diez Moliner.

At the end of the day five, the top 20 and ties will earn Category 12 status on the LET for the 2024 season.
