Golden Charity Shot raises €37,000

Solheim Cup players and celebrities raised €37,000 for charity in just two hours as they took part in the “Golden Charity Shot” from the “Old Bridge” or “Alte Brücke”, in Heidelberg.

They each had three attempts to hit a floating target on the river Neckar and €1,000 was donated to the Franz-Beckenbauer-Foundation and the German School Sports Foundation for each shot that hit the target.

While some of the golfers hit balls made from fish food, Steffi Graaff used a tennis racket and ball during her attempts and the footballers tried kicking from the iconic bridge.

The 2015 Solheim European and United States Cup Captains, Carin Koch and Juli Inkster respectively, were joined by past European team members Caroline Masson, Sandra Gal and Caroline Hedwall, while US star Paula Creamer and US vice-captain Pat Hurst were also in Heidelberg. They were joined on stage by celebrities Dietmar Hopp, Franz Beckenbauer, Steffi Graff and John A Solheim, Chairman and CEO of PING among other famous faces.

The Golden Charity Shot began a marathon of fund raising, with a huge auction on Monday evening and charity show match at Golf Club St Leon Rot on Tuesday at 12:00 local time.
