GARVEY CHANGING IT UP AFTER CLINCHING LET CARD FOR 2025

Amelia Garvey

Amelia Garvey is looking forward to a new challenge after securing her Ladies European Tour (LET) card for the 2025 season.

The New Zealander has been plying her trade on the Epson Tour in the United States since turning professional in 2021.

However, Garvey headed to Lalla Aicha Q-School after speaking to her cousin Jamie Tipper, who is a coach to some LET players and suggested she would like the Tour.

The 24-year-old had Tipper on her bag to help her throughout the two weeks of Q-School as she secured Category 12 status.

“It’s awesome,” she said. “Jamie [Tipper] is the reason why I’m here. I’ve struggled on the Epson [Tour] to get my LPGA card, and I just wanted to change it up a little bit.

“He said I would like it out here and the courses would suit my game, and it was really nice to have him on the bag this week and have a comfortable familiar face, and he’s done a really good job.

“I’m from New Zealand. I was born in Manchester originally but moved to New Zealand when I was five. I started playing golf when I was six.

“I went to USC in America to Southern California for college and I’ve been in the States for the past seven years, but it’s going to be nice being a little bit closer to my family. All my extended family is still in Manchester, so I will make that my base now coming on the LET.”

Garvey finished in a share of first place in the Pre-Qualifier held at Golf Club Rotana with a score of nine-under-par.

She then put together rounds of 69-73-69-67-65 around Al Maaden Golf and Royal Golf Marrakech to finish in outright fourth place in the Final Qualifier and secure her full LET card for 2025.

Speaking after her final round, Garvey was pleased to have put in a great performance over the two weeks in Morocco.

She continued: “I’m feeling good. It was a pretty stress-free round for me today, I just wanted to put a low number up and try and chase the lead down. I really love this course, it suits my game, so I’m really proud of the way I finished the five days out here.

“I definitely like to look at leaderboards. My goal was to finish in the top five and I knew I needed to go low to do that. This is a course where you can burn it up. I was looking at what numbers I needed, I had some par-5s coming in so knew I could birdie those and just tried to stay patient on the harder holes.

“I probably hit it the worst today that I have all week, but I didn’t make many mistakes today. I two-putt it from long range and was able to convert a few 15 to 20-footers which was nice.”
